Situated on the Southern Terrace of Westfield London Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush, The Meat Co. is the perfect place for a delicious feast after shopping to your heart's content.
Set on two levels, the ground-floor bar with its African themed motif, offers a diverse selection of cocktails, with drinks such as the Jungle Bear (Absolut Raspberry, Archers peach schnapps, lemon juice and lemonade) and The Meat Co. Martini (Kalinska vodka, apple and lemon juice, sugar syrup, mint leaves and cucumber), certain to help get you in the spirit of things before you head upstairs for dinner.
The upstairs restaurant by contrast, is much more refined with warm, sophisticated decor and an open, glass-fronted kitchen, perfect for those who wish to watch the skilled chefs prepare their meal.
Owned by Costa Tomazos, one of South Africa’s most successful restaurateurs, Costa’s vision was to create a unique steakhouse dining experience with the best quality meat, sourced from around the globe, perfectly aged and basted in a secret traditional recipe and flame grilled to perfection.
So, what's the food like? It's in the name, really.
The meat truly is exceptional. When you spend nearly £50 on a steak, you expect it to be a damn fine steak, and a damn fine steak it was. The fillet of English beef (leaner than the American beef, which is fattier and more flavoursome), was juicy and cooked to perfection - everything you could wish a steak to be.
The sides were also tasty, but let's be honest, it's the meat that's the star of the show. Options include creamed spinach, broccolini, mashed potatoes, garlic mushrooms and fries, to name a few. We also ordered Bearnaise sauce and green peppercorn sauce for the steaks, both of which were good.
Other star dishes on the menu included a very tasty warm garlic and chilli chicken salad with sweet potato, rocket and cashews, which was very moreish and would make a tasty main, even though it features on the starters menu.
After a sumptuous feast, we were nearly bursting at the seams, but with so many fabulous desserts on offer, it would have been rude not to give them a go! Unable to decide, we opted for the Tasting Platter, which had an array of sinfully delicious desserts to choose from, including passionfruit sorbet, timimisu, chocolate fondant, syrup sponge and a chocolate sundae. The platter was enormous and is more suited to 4 people sharing.
As you can see, dessert was pretty epic. My personal favourite was the ice cream sundae - simple but delicious.
Overall, the service was fast, friendly and efficient, and the food was spot on. Two thumbs (and one dress size) up.
