We love quality chocolate (who doesn’t?), so we were excited to hear about the launch of MIA, a range of luxurious Madagascan single-origin chocolate bars ‘Made In Africa’.
Set up by a group of foodies with a shared passion for the continent, its people, wildlife and natural ingredients, each MIA product is crafted from start to finish in Madagascar with 1% of MIA sales donated to development projects in Africa.
The Criollo, Amelonado and Trinitario cocoa used is sourced directly from independent farmers in the Sambirano Valley of northwest Madagascar. The range includes six delicious variants:
We tried the intense 100% cocoa, the slightly milder 75% cocoa and the candied orange chocolate bar, which contained candied orange pieces. All were mouth-wateringly delicious and we loved the gorgeous gold-embossed packaging they came in, which made each bar feel like a special treat as you unwrapped its goodness. With their intense flavours and stunning aesthetics, they're the perfect gift for any chocolate aficionado.
MIA chocolates are available from BoroughBox (www.boroughbox.com) and Cocoa Runners (www.cocoarunners.com) for £4.00 (for a 75g pack).
I love Kent, so I was thrilled when I discovered some tasty treats from Potash Farm.
Single Origin Ghana Milk Chocolate Bar with Kentish Cobnuts
England meets Africa in this sinfully delicious chocolate slab. This rich, milk chocolate bar is comprised of high quality plain and milk chocolate with Kentish cobnuts - simple yet sensational.
I'd never even heard of a cobnut, let alone eaten one, but it was fabulous. Apparently, a Cobnut is a type of hazelnut traditionally grown in Kent. They are harvested in their green state from mid -August and with brown shells and husks by mid - October. All the Kentish Cobnuts are sold de-husked from November onwards.
Available from www.kentishcobnuts.com for £6.50.
Kentish Honey with Cobnuts
This fine local Kent honey has been combined with delicious Potash Farm Kentish Cobnuts. This natural golden treat is an excellent addition to any breakfast or afternoon tea, pancakes, or even drizzled over rich diary ice cream.
Available from www.kentishcobnuts.com for £6.95 (200g jar) or £13.00 for two jars.
