We stayed at Z Holborn, a 197-bed hotel located in the heart of London’s Midtown (that sweet spot between The City and the West End), making it the ideal place for those wishing to visit Somerset House or shop in Covent Garden.
The petite size of the rooms gives them an almost womb-like comfort, creating the perfect environment for a good night’s kip. At the foot of each bed is a large HDTV with all Sky Sports and Movie channels, ideal for unwinding after a day exploring London’s sights. The rooms also come equipped with a private bathroom with a power shower, in room tea and coffee making facilities and a small desk for those travelling for business.
Most guests stay an average of one or two nights, and with all London has to offer right on your doorstep, you won’t be spending much time in your room anyways.
One of the things we love most about Z hotels is the complimentary aperitivo offering in the brasserie, a simple, chic and relaxed space thanks to its monochrome décor and granite high tables and cosy leather booths that encourage people to gather round and socialise. Served from 5-8 pm each night, guests can enjoy free wine, cheese and nibbles. It’s such a lovely touch and the perfect way to ease into the evening. We honestly didn’t know what we were missing out on! I mean who doesn’t love wine and cheese? Of course, it was too good to resist, so I enjoyed a couple glasses of Pinot Noir, a selection of cheeses, crackers, olives and chocolate. To top it off, as we visited during a press evening, we also got to try mini dishes from the brasserie, including Scotch eggs with chorizo, and steak pie, which had a fabulously flaky pastry and rich gravy. Delicious. |
Although we didn’t tuck into breakfast the following morning as we had a really early start to our day, guests can choose from either a buffet or continental breakfast available in the café. For those who wish to eat lunch at the hotel, they also serve a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps and flatbreads or salads. The verdict Overall, this is a great place to stay. It’s simple, stylish and hits all the right notes when it comes to a fab, laidback hotel amidst the buzzing action of London. |
Prices from £55 (for an inside double).

Best bits The complimentary wine and cheese! Worst bits We couldn’t really fault it; however, the small rooms might start to feel a bit cramped if you’re staying for more than a couple of nights. Most suited for Solo travellers or couples looking to explore the city and its sights. | Our experience overall Location: ★★★★★ Ambiance: ★★★★ Food and drink: ★★★★ Staff friendliness / attentiveness: ★★★★★ |
