Kids favourites - Dantoy bucket and spade set

9/5/2021

Kids toys don't get more traditional than a bucket and spade set, which is perfect for spending hours shovelling sand and building sandcastles.

We have long been fans of Dantoy, a company which makes a wide range of eco-friendly children's toys, and their bucket and spade set is certain to be loved by any child who enjoys playing outdoors.

The Dantoy play set comes with an eco-friendly bioplastic bucket, spade, rake and watering can, all of which are made with sugarcane, making them totally non toxic. So, they are both safe and cute, which is a bonus!

Given we live in London, beaches are hard to come by, so we took our  play set to the sandpit of our local playground to give it a test run. My three-year-old loved carrying around the bucket and filling it and emptying it, time and time again. Sometimes it really is the simplest things in life that really do give us the greatest pleasure.

All of the toys within the set are well made and sturdy, which is ideal for boisterous toddlers who aren't exactly careful when it comes to looking after their toys!

Get one now and you'll be ready for hours of summertime fun. The Dantoy Bio-Toy Bucket and Spade 4 piece playset costs £12.99 from Smyths.

Dantoy Pastry Kit

Dantoy Pastry Kit
It's hard to keep kids entertained during lockdown when options are limited, so I'm always looking for new ways to keep my kids busy and myself sane. Not always an easy task.

My three-year old loves helping us in the kitchen and pretending he's a chef, so this super cute and very realistic pastry set from Dantoy, is just the ticket for keeping him amused.
Picture
Dantoy Pastry Kit
The 11-piece set comes with a rolling pin, cookie cutters, two mixing bowls, a whisk, and of course, a pastry cutter! We've found that the cookie cutters are also great for making shapes with PlayDoh when you're not busy baking. I love when something is dual purpose!

All items carry the Nordic Swan Ecolable and are toxic free without phthalates, perfumes or BPAs, so it ticks all the right eco boxes, too. Interestingly, the products are made with 90% sugarcane, which comes from pesticide-free plantations in Brazil.

All items are also dishwasher safe, so you can throw them in the dishwasher after the baking fun is done, making clean up a breeze.

The Dantoy Pastry Kit is available from Smallable.com for £21.00.

Stubble & Co The Weekender Bag
I love a weekender bag, and I much prefer men’s weekender bags, as I find they are much roomier than women’s versions. Why do I love a weekender bag? Because it holds a promise of being whisked away for a fabulous weekend! Sadly, the pandemic has more or less put a stop to any “whisking away” as such, however we did manage one wee sneaky staycation at my family holiday home. No rules were broken in road testing this holdall, we adhered to all the rules and restrictions of the pandemic.

I’m a sucker for a dust bag and this comes with one, which is extremely handy when storing the bag away. The bag has been crafted with premium waterproof canvas, and is made of natural full grain leather and  has YKK zips. It has a 42litre capacity and as I am known as someone who packs everything and the kitchen sink, this extra space comes in handy. It has a high-density protection 15-inch laptop pocket and additionally a safe and secure inner pocket. There is also an outer pocket, perfect to have quick access to my smartphone.

This bag is the brainchild of Ben Watkiss who started the company through kickstarter. His goal was to create good quality bags to suit our needs for our busy lifestyles, I would like to say he has succeeded.

The verdict:
I loved this bag, it is durable, roomy and stylish and ticks all the boxes. I cannot wait until we can freely travel once more, as I am sure that this weekender will become my constant travel companion.

Pros: The interior laptop pocket is fab, my laptop has my life on it, and I like the fact that I don’t have to carry it separately. The pocket is very sturdy and I felt that it was quite safe from damage. I love the fact that it is a timeless classic and if looked after properly it is something that I will happily hand down to my teenage son or daughter if she gets to it first, she is already eyeing it up! It is also very reasonably priced.

Cons: It is quite a heavy bag, weighing an impressive 1.5kg, however the fact that it is sturdy makes up for that.

Available from Stubble and Co.com for £155.00.

I don’t know about you, but thanks to this pandemic my life has been completely transformed, and as a result so have my needs. With the vast majority of people now working from home, having the right tools at hand is essential to make working from home as comfortable and as efficient as possible. I've rounded up  some of my favourite items for working from home.

Live Streaming Kit
Perfect for Zoom calls, this hands-free kit is great for helping you look your best while you make calls or film videos.  The phone holder is excellent, and you can angle it to suit your position. The back light is very simple to use, and has three settings which you can adjust at the touch of a button to show yourself in the best light!

Available from Kikkerland for £25.

Lazy Arm Tablet Version

I was very wary of this product, as I have just invested in a new tablet and the idea of it being held in the air by a piece of plastic was not very appealing, however, it was surprisingly strong, so  I needn't have worried!

Available from I Want One of Those for £8.99.

Baola Swiss seating ball
This is a luxury, art-inspired Swiss seating ball. Baola like to keep things unique, and have teamed up with artists across the world to create these stunning seating balls, that bridge functionality with comfort whilst being stylish.
It takes some getting used to (I felt rather ridiculous at first), however, once you get the hang of it, you do feel that you're doing your posture a favour. I plan on ordering more of these fabulous balls so the rest of my family members can also benefit from great posture. I also love the re-washable outer cloth, which is fab and bright.

Available from Baola.co for £129.

Hayo’u Crystal Duo
Known as the “Master Healer”  I thought I would give this a whirl as I want to look my best on those Zoom calls. The beauty restorer quartz is a new addition to the range, and I love anything that is the new improved version.

It claims to soothe tired and stressed skin, improve energy flow, support circulation and lymphatic drainage, to lift, plump and sculpt and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. That is the holy grail of skincare.

We have spent an awful lot of time indoors this year thanks to the pandemic, and lately I have felt the dryness return to my skin, but after using the beauty oil with the Hayo’u, I felt that it alleviated the dryness.

For the ultimate self care experience, light a candle and relax while using the product for the perfect 'me time' moment. Available from
www.hayoumethod.com for £59.

Cabi virtual stylist
The pandemic has also changed the way we shop;  we can no longer try on garments in store. In steps Cabi, the virtual stylist. You can choose from over 2, 500 stylists who will guide you through an online personal styling session and assist you to select clothes and accessories that flatter you.

Cabi
provides a designer women's clothing collection and is the nation's largest social selling apparel company. The brand has become known for its unparalleled quality provided through a unique shopping experience, and network of U.S., Canadian, and U.K. cabi Stylists who form a tight-knit community of collaboration.

After much consideration, I decided to select the Autumn Teal Leaves dress, it is a stunningly vibrant colour and very flattering if you have pale skin and dark hair.

The dress is not too formal or informal, it strikes that middle balance of smart casual perfectly. It is very elegant and the colour is quite striking. I love the fact that is two dresses in one, there is a camisole slip dress and the outer, long sleeved, easy-fitting maxi layer with a ruffle detailing.  It’s a maxi which is great to hide that “lockdown” belly. It is a very easy to wear dress.

The Autum Leaves dress is available from
www.cabionline.com for £119.00.

Bamigo 'Taylor' pajama bottoms
Some days call for pajamas and thanks to this fab, sustainable men's clothing brand, you can dress in comfort without worrying that you're destroying the planet.

Designed to offer optimal fit, comfort and style, they are the ultimate working from home item.  A soft elasticated waistband (perfect for lockdown belly) and convenient pockets, make them ideal for lounging.

They are made from bamboo, which is a sustainable and durable alternative to cotton, bamboo allows the skin to breathe, ensuring a fresh feel throughout the day, whilst looking effortlessly stylish.

Destination Delicious Christmas gift guide - books for foodies and travel lovers
Mystical Places by Sarah Baxter and Illustrated by Amy Grimes
This beautiful book by travel journalist Sarah Baxter is a love story to magical, wonder-filled  places. Instead of using photographs to bring the places to life, there are colourful, ethereal illustrations to depict each place, which adds to the sense of almost supernatural mystery.

As you read the book, Sarah’s passion for the mythology of places is as evident as she provides both historical facts about the origins of each place alongside the folklores and theories that make it beguiling.

Places I’ve now been inspired to add to my ever-expanding travel bucket list include: Lake Bled, Slovenia; Mount Shasta, California; Spiti Valley, India; and Cadair Idris in Snowdonia National Park, Wales.

Mystical Places by Sarah Baxter and Illustrated by Amy Grimes is published by Quarto Publishing. Available from Wordery.com for £1.91 (hardcover).

Stuff Every Cheese Lover Should Know by Alexandra Jones
If you’re a cheese lover who wants to know everything there is to know about cheese, from how it’s made to why some cheeses melt differently, then this is the book for you.

Author Alexandra is a woman after my own heart when she prefaces the book by expressing that she’s not here to judge – if you’re first experience with cheese was ‘Velveeta enveloping macaroni’, ‘Cheeto powder licked from your thumb and forefinger, or an American cheese single melted between two slices of bread’, then that’s fine.  Being an American girl, whose first love of cheese was all of these things, and later discovering ‘finer’ cheeses after I moved to England and was exposed to a wealth of amazing English cheddars and fabulous French cheeses (which were very expensive and hard to come by in the small town I grew up of in the middle of the Midwest), I felt as though the book was written just for me.

There are lots of great tips on how to pick amazing cheeses from your local cheese shop or grocer, as well as how to build a festive cheese board. For those who are feeling really adventurous, there is also advice on how to make cheese at home.

The book is small, so it’s perfectly portable, making it the ideal size for popping in your handbag, should you want to reference any cheeses when you pay a visit to the cheesemonger.

Stuff Every Cheese Lover Should Know by Alexandra Jones is published by Quirk Books. Available from Blackwells.co.uk for £6.6.8 (hardcover).

Cheese,
glorious cheese...

Wish You Were Here by Terry Stephens
If your favourite travel books feature the most visited destinations that epitomise the usual travel bucket list of ‘go tos’, then this isn’t the book for you. But, if you like to branch out to seek places that are a bit more unique and are guaranteed to provide a memorable experience that you’ll remember for years to come, then you’ll find this book highly enjoyable.

Terry Stephens is an international tourism expert who wrote the book to help people understand each place and why we should experience them. Having established his own successful tourism consultancy, Stevens & Associates, Terry has worked on destination development and management in 60 countries. So, if anyone knows what it takes to make a great destination, it’s Terry.

So, what makes a great destination? Quite simply, it needs to provide people with a great experience, which means that the destination must be well managed to ensure it delivers an amazing experience.  All of the cities that have been selected for inclusion in the book are relatively compact in size, have a clear vision, and invest in the tourism industry and the local community.

Destinations that we’ve now been inspired to visit include the Eugenian Hills in Veneto, Italy; Austin, Texas, USA; Baden-Baden, Germany; Baiersbronn, Germany; Bled, Slovenia; Flagstaff, Arizona, USA; Kitzbuhel, Austria; The Julian Alps, Slovenia; and Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. Sadly, it’s going to be a while before we can jet off to any locations outside of the UK, but for now we dream.

Wish You Were Here by Terry Stephens is published by Graffeg Limited. Available from Waterstones.com for £20.00 (paperback).

Loving Layoners - Look hot while keeping in the shade

Cool sunglasses in men's, women's and unisex styles

Layoners sunglasses for women
Layoners sunglasses for men
I'm a firm believer that a girl can never have too many sunnies, so when the team at Layoners got in touch to introduce us to their range of super stylish sunglasses for men and women, we couldn't wait to try some of their latest styles!

The Slovenian brand is inspired by catwalk fashion in Milan and street style in New York - two of the hottest fashion epicentres in the world.  Their collections are bang on trend and feature both retro and futuristic styles, providing a wealth of different options to sport.
I'm wearing the 'Wild Girl' model, which gives off some serious vintage vibes. I love the tortoiseshell detailing and the gorgeous purple hued lenses with a hint of blue trim at the base of the frame.   The oversize style hides a wealth of sins, which is a godsend for a tired momma who wants to look glam even if she hasn't had a full night's sleep!  Although my travelling is on hiatus for a while thanks to lockdown, I can already see myself wearing these on a sun lounger while sipping on a frosty cocktail with a good book in hand!
stylish men's sunglasses
best women's sunglasses
My husband, Brad, opted for the Layoners Black Advantage, (€,32.99) a more futuristic style with classic black frames and sleek, silver sides, making this style both timeless and modern.   I personally think he's giving James Bond a run for his money, but I'm a little biased.

Layoners are available at www.layoners.com.
